Understanding the Hosanna Shout
The Hosanna Shout is a sacred tribute to the Father and the Son, performed during the dedication of each temple. It was first given in this dispensation at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple in 1836. The shout symbolizes the reaction of the multitude when the Savior made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem and reaffirms the vision of Joseph Smith in the Sacred Grove, where he saw the Father and the Son as two glorified Beings.

Performing the Hosanna Shout
President Nelson explains the procedure of the Hosanna Shout. Participants take a clean white handkerchief, hold it by one corner, and wave it while saying in unison, "Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna to God and the Lamb" three times, followed by "Amen, Amen, and Amen." If a participant does not have a white handkerchief, they may simply wave their hand.
