Open talk in Gospel LibraryIdeas for Opening the Lesson
- Invite class members to take 30 seconds and silently think of one name or title of Jesus Christ that feels especially meaningful to them right now. Then ask a few volunteers to share the name they chose and why it matters to them. This opening would help the class enter the lesson personally and connect immediately with Elder Hall’s invitation to glory in Jesus Christ.
- Begin by writing on the board: "I glory in my Jesus." Ask the class what makes that phrase feel personal and powerful. After a few responses, briefly explain that Elder Hall used Nephi, Ammon, and several divine titles of Christ to show how a personal relationship with the Savior changes the way we face life.

Elder Hall taught that Nephi’s phrase "my Jesus" showed a close, loving, and personal relationship with the Savior. He said that Jesus Christ was not distant to Nephi and that the name of Jesus had become Nephi’s salvation. The talk invited listeners to move beyond knowing about Christ and come to know Him personally.
To Nephi, Jesus Christ was not someone distant or merely known by name. No, to Nephi, the name of Jesus was his salvation.

Elder Hall showed that Nephi trusted the Lord in both suffering and deliverance. He highlighted Nephi’s testimony that God had supported, led, preserved, and filled him with love. The talk taught that trust in Jesus Christ can remain steady in both bitter and sweet moments of life.
In every circumstance—the bitter and the sweet—Nephi trusted in the One “who is mighty to save.”

He emphasized that those who have felt the Lord’s mercy naturally want to glory in Him. The talk encouraged gratitude, praise, and open rejoicing in the Savior’s mercy and long-suffering.
Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever.

Elder Hall testified that he gloried in Jesus Christ as Redeemer and Good Shepherd. He said the Savior extended mercy, invited all to repent, received the penitent, gathered His sheep, rescued them, and worked relentlessly to bring them home. The talk emphasized both forgiveness and belonging through Christ.
I glory in our Redeemer. His arms of mercy are extended toward us. He sends an invitation to all, saying, “Repent, and I will receive you.”

He can heal all who feel the sting of death, loneliness, physical and emotional pain, the burden of sin, and every broken heart.
